The Allevia GI Institute stands on the shoulders of two of the Auckland region’s most trusted names in gastroenterology care.
Decades of Heritage. A Bright Future Together.
Allevia (formerly MercyAscot) Endoscopy North Shore, with its long-standing history as part of New Zealand's first private GI endoscopy clinic, and Shakespeare Gastroenterology, a cornerstone of expert care for nearly four decades, combine their strengths and patient-first philosophies.
Our unified team of seven skilled endoscopists and the five highly respected specialists from Shakespeare Gastroenterology offer a wealth of specialised experience. This collective expertise encompasses many subspecialties of gastro-intestinal care, with many of our team recognised as national and international leaders in their specialty areas. The Allevia GI Institute enables GPs and other referrers to access expert care for their patients through a streamlined referral process, knowing their patients will receive evidence-based, comprehensive care.
The "Institute" in our name reflects our deep commitment to advancing the science and art of gastroenterology. As well as specialist gastroenterologists; we are educators, leaders, researchers, and innovators, contributing to medical advancements through clinical trials, university teaching, and leadership in national and international GI societies. This dedication translates directly into high quality, collaborative care, offering our patients leading-edge diagnostics and treatments designed for a more effective and reassuring healthcare journey.
Optimal GI health often involves more than medication or procedures. That's why the Allevia GI Institute is one of the few practices to offer dedicated, in-house support long standing referral pathways to specialist dietitians, physiotherapists and psychologists. For the people that need them, these highly trained professions play a vital role in helping patients achieve and maintain well-being. Our compassionate specialist nurses provide an additional layer of personalised, hands-on support, ensuring every patient feels understood, reassured and well-cared for. They raise the level of care we are able to provide from good, to great.
We are thrilled to welcome the Shakespeare Gastroenterology whānau to our newly enhanced Takapuna facility, which is being expanded to accommodate our growing practice.
According to Kirsty Vercoe, General Manager - Specialist Engagement, "Welcoming Shakespeare Gastroenterology into the Allevia whānau to launch the Allevia GI Institute is a moment of immense pride for all of us. It signifies the years of whakawhanaungatanga (the process of establishing relationships) we have taken to understand, innovate and evolve into a functional and cooperative partnership, to create an integrated and exceptional healthcare experience that places our people, our patients and their journey at the very heart of all we do."
