Allevia Hospital Epsom (formerly known as Mercy Hospital) has officially opened its new hospital wing, the Gilgit Wing.
Kaumatua Eru opened the celebrations with a dawn blessing of the mauri stone, followed by the official opening by Health Minister Simeon Brown, in the afternoon.
The expansion marks a significant milestone as the hospital continues to enhance its capacity to provide exceptional value-based healthcare to the Auckland community and meet the growing demand for surgical healthcare services in the region.
The newly constructed wing will house 10 state-of-the-art operating theatres, a post-anaesthetic care unit (PACU) with 17 beds, six intensive care unit (ICU) beds, and six high-dependency unit (HDU) beds designed to meet the increasing need for advanced surgical procedures. The new Gilgit Wing located on 98 Mountain Road in Epsom will also include a modern ward with 20 single- and four double-patient bedrooms, ensuring that patients benefit from both high-quality care and a comfortable recovery environment.
"This expansion shows our commitment to providing the highest standard of care to our patients," said Allevia Hospitals CEO, Ian England. “The addition of these new operating theatres and a modern ward will enable us to not only increase our capacity to perform a wide range of surgeries but also better serve the healthcare needs of our growing community. The Gilgit Wing will strengthen Allevia Hospital Epsom’s position as New Zealand’s leading private healthcare campus, further solidifying our role as a provider of world-class and value-based healthcare."
