Sze-Lin was born in Malaysia and came to New Zealand in 1991 to board at St. Cuthbert’s College. She obtained her medical degree from the Auckland Medical School in 1999.
Prior to completing her advanced training in General Surgery, Sze-Lin spent two years gaining research experience in nutrition in chronic liver disease with the Department of Surgery, University of Auckland. She obtained her Fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2008.
Sze-Lin then undertook a 2-year formal post-fellowship training programme with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ). This involved colorectal fellow positions at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 2009 and the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne in 2010. There she gained extensive experience in a wide range of colorectal disorders including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and anorectal disease. She has a particular interest in laparoscopic procedures, transanal minimally invasive procedures, and colonoscopy.
She has a public appointment at Middlemore Hospital where she also manages acute general surgery including laparoscopic cholecystectomy and trauma.
