Before joining Auckland City Hospital as a Colorectal and General Surgeon in February 2007, Julian was employed for three years as a Consultant and Senior Lecturer in the University Department of Surgery at Dunedin Hospital. His research includes the development of a “fast-track” recovery pathway for patients having laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Julian spent two years in colorectal training in Adelaide and Brisbane gaining experience in laparoscopic colorectal surgery alongside surgeons considered world leaders in this field. He has taught on a number of laparoscopic colorectal surgery courses in New Zealand.

My areas of surgical expertise include: 
• laparoscopic procedures for colorectal disease, including colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. 
• the surgical management of pelvic floor disorders, including rectal prolapse and incontinence. 
• colonoscopy. 

While laparoscopic colorectal surgery is my special interest, I am available to perform a wide range of colorectal and general surgical procedures, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia and haemorrhoid surgery.
